The Berggruen Institute was established in 2010 to develop foundational ideas about how to reshape political and social institutions in the face of these great transformations. They work across cultures, disciplines and political boundaries, engaging great thinkers to develop and promote long-term answers to the biggest challenges of the 21st Century.
The $1 million lifetime achievement award is given annually to a thinker whose ideas are of broad significance in shaping human self-understanding and the advancement of humanity.
